Religious Ed Update
The mission of St. Paul Parish Office of Religious Education is to support parents in their role as the primary catechists of their child: teaching and forming their child in the knowledge of our Roman Catholic faith and participation in the Church's sacramental life. We offer several programs to meet the needs of our families in fulfilling this task. It is our hope to raise up a new generation of disciples for Jesus Christ. We believe this can best be achieved by both educating our children and leading them into a relationship with God!
In addition to catechetical formation, the Office of Religious Education partners with parents in our Religious Education Program, our Parish School, Princeton area Private Catholic Schools and Home Study Families in the preparation of their child's celebration of the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation. This program is a traditional classroom model for catechesis. Children in grades K-8 attend a weekly class where they are instructed by a catechist that has been certified through the Diocese of Trenton. Religious Education classes are offered multiple times during the week. Click here for PREP web page.
Saint Paul Parish is home to many Hispanic families. Responding to the cultural needs of our community we also provide bilingual classes that meet Sunday evenings before our Spanish Liturgy.
This is a two week intensive program that covers a grade level's worth of curriculum. Classes generally run during the month of July, they meet Monday-Friday 9:00 am-12:00 pm. Families participating in Summer Academy are also expected to attend four to six Family Catechesis Sessions through the academic year on Sunday afternoons following the 11:30 am Mass. Click here for program web page.
Recognizing that parents are the primary catechists of their children Saint Paul Parish offers the option of home study. This program provides materials and resources for inter-generational faith formation in the home. Families participating in this program are requested to attend at least four Family Catechetical Sessions through the academic year on Sunday afternoons following the 11:30 am Mass. Click here for Family Home Study web page.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a special opportunity for children at 10:00 am Mass to share the Word of God in an age appropriate reflection. Children from 4 years old up to second grade will be invited to come forward after the Collect to receive a blessing and process to the Spiritual Center where they will celebrate a Liturgy of the Word accessible to children. They will return at the Preparation of the Gifts. Adult volunteers are always welcome. If you can help, please email Claire at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Every July, St. Paul Parish offers this program for children 3 1/2-9 years old. We have a one week camp for mornings 9:00 am-12:00 pm Monday through Friday. We use themes from Cat. Chat Vacation Bible School, which offers crafts, snacks, fun& games, prayer, a virtue of the day, and a Saint of the Day. Click here for VBC web page.
