Societies and Organizations

Altar and Rosary Society
The purpose of the Altar and Rosary Society, established over 65 years ago, is to honor and praise the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Society invokes her patronage and derives its spiritual strength through the recitation of the Rosary at the start of their monthly meeting, and translates that strength into the following performed activities:
  • Laundering and purchase of altar linens and vestments used on the altar tables as well as those worn by the priests at the Liturgy
  • Sewing and preparation of baby bibs for infants’ baptisms
  • Maintenance and replacement of the altar candles
  • Visitation to ill members and remembrance with flowers, mass cards and words of encouragement along with masses for individual members
  • Thanksgiving food baskets for needy families
  • Christmas and Easter remembrances to the Parish and to local charities
  • Two bake sales each year
The Society is not all work and no play. Members enjoy an annual Christmas party, a yearly day of recollection, and a spring potluck supper.

Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal organization of Catholic men who derive a sense of satisfaction from being able to develop lasting friendships with each other while helping others who are less fortunate. The strength of the Knights lies in the fact that they are a family-, church- and community-oriented organization offering members and their families a wide variety of activities with people who share the same beliefs and values. The K of C hosts a variety of social, recreational, charitable, service and religious activities with others who recognize the same duty to God, to family and to their neighbors, both near and far.
The Princeton Council was founded in 1906 and is one of the oldest in NJ, with 102 members from St. Paul’s and surrounding parishes. Activities have included a parish-wide Communion Breakfast, Mother’s Day Rose Sale, basketball free-throw and essay contests for the youth, Advent Wreath workshop, children’s Easter Egg Hunt, a family Trenton Thunder game, fund-raisers for the disadvantaged, and a council picnic. The Knights could use help with any of these activities and are always open to new ideas. They do not demand a lot of time, but the work they do together does a tremendous amount of good at St. Paul’s and elsewhere. If you believe in the importance of investing your time in friendship, the Church and helping others, the K of C is for you.

St. Vincent de Paul
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul provides assistance to the needy, both in a material and spiritual way, through person-to-person contact. The Society is an international Catholic organization of lay persons, founded in 1883 by Frederic Ozanam and his companions. Placed under the patronage of St. Vincent de Paul, the Society derives its inspiration from Vincent’s thinking and work. It seeks in a spirit of justice and charity and by person-to-person involvement of its members, to help those who are suffering. The Society is approximately one-million strong in 131 countries.

Person-to-person involvement is essential to Vincentian helping and can include any assistance that promotes human dignity and integrity. The Society is concerned not only with relieving need but also with redressing the situations that cause it, and serves persons regardless of creed, opinion, color, caste, and origin which might include immigrants, transients, orphans, the abandoned or rejected, or any who find themselves among others who are indifferent or hostile.

The Society often encounters situations where it could extend its financial resources if there were a bank of volunteers with special talents that could be called upon for help. Examples, not limited to these alone, include legal, medical, dental, financial (tax, accounting, etc.), electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, etc. Meetings are held monthly in the Rectory of St. Paul’s.
